Hot Laps is wrapping up development and nearing App Store submission. We've been heads-down building a racing telemetry app that turns your iPhone into a motorsport data logger — no extra hardware required.
What It Does
Hot Laps uses your iPhone's built-in GPS, accelerometer, gyroscope, and barometer to capture real-time performance data. Mount your phone, run through a guided calibration, and you're ready for the track, the autocross course, or the drag strip.
Free Features
The free tier ships with a configurable acceleration test — choose from multiple speed targets (0-30, 0-45, 0-60, 0-80, 0-100 mph) with live G-force feedback. You also get a diagnostics dashboard showing live sensor status at 50 Hz, GPS lock quality, and barometer altitude. Free includes one vehicle and your most recent run per test.
Pro Features
Pro unlocks the full suite via in-app purchase:
- Braking Test — configurable X-to-0 targets (30, 40, 60, 80, 100 mph) with time and stopping distance
- Race Mode — full track sessions with live lap timing, automatic GPS lap detection, real-time speed readout, G-force ball, and a track outline that draws itself on a mini map
- 1/8-Mile & 1/4-Mile Drag — distance-based acceleration timing with trap speed
- Brake Fade — repeated braking cycle analysis to measure consistency
- Turning G — cornering force measurement
- Session History — every run saved with full telemetry for review and comparison
- Garage — unlimited vehicles with full spec sheets, mod tracking, and maintenance history
Pricing
Hot Laps is free to download with a generous free tier — you get the configurable acceleration test, diagnostics dashboard, one vehicle, and your most recent run per test.
The Pro upgrade is a one-time in-app purchase at $1.99 (intro pricing). This increases to $4.99 in May, so early adopters get the full suite at a steep discount. Pro unlocks braking tests, Race Mode with GPS lap detection, 1/8- and 1/4-mile drag timing, brake fade analysis, turning G measurement, full session history, and the Garage with unlimited vehicles.
No subscriptions. Pay once, keep it forever.
Under the Hood
At the core is SpeedFusionEngine, a GPS-anchored IMU tracking system that fuses sensor data for accurate speed and position. The app captures sensor data at 50 Hz and includes a guided calibration system with rotation matrix averaging and real-time stability feedback.
Hot Laps is built entirely with Apple frameworks — no third-party dependencies.
What's Coming Next
We're already planning post-launch updates:
- Rolling 40-80 mph acceleration
- Body roll analysis
- Pitch & squat detection
- Transition time / slalom
Privacy
Like all SSETCO apps, Hot Laps stores everything locally on your device. No accounts, no cloud uploads, no tracking. Your performance data stays completely private. Read the full privacy policy.
