LPMud-Revised just landed its largest area expansion yet: a 48-room Dragonlance-themed zone with four new quests, and a reusable weapon and armor shop system that gives the world a proper equipment economy. The quest count jumps from six to ten, and the room total climbs past 250.
Dragonlance Area
Inspired by the Dragonlance Chronicles, the new area is accessed from the western plains and spans four distinct sub-areas, each with its own quest and level range:
Solace (Levels 1-5)
The tree-top village of Solace, home to the Inn of the Last Home. A good starting point for new characters looking to gear up before heading deeper. The Blue Crystal Staff quest starts here — a straightforward introductory quest for low-level players.
Xak Tsaroth (Levels 5-10)
The ruined city beneath the surface. Players brave enough to descend will face the black dragon Khisanth and pursue the Disks of Mishakal quest — a retrieval mission through crumbling halls and flooded passages.
Pax Tharkas (Levels 10-15)
A mountain fortress held by enemy forces. The Pax Tharkas quest sends players through fortified gates and garrison rooms to liberate the stronghold. Expect tougher combat encounters and coordinated NPC defenses.
Temple of the Dark Queen (Level 16+)
The endgame portal leads to the Temple of the Dark Queen, where players face the Avatar of Takhisis — the final boss of the Dragonlance storyline. This is among the toughest encounters in the game, on par with the Wyrm of Arcanarton.
Weapon and Armor Shops
The mudlib now has a proper equipment economy built on a reusable shop framework (obj/weapon_shop.c). Two shops are live:
- Village Shop (
room/shop.c) — level-appropriate gear for new and mid-level players - Solace Shop (
room/dragonlance/solace/shop.c) — Dragonlance-themed equipment
How It Works
Each shop has a shopkeeper NPC and supports four commands:
- buy — purchase an item from the shop's inventory
- sell — sell an item to the shop (goes to the consignment store)
- list — see what's available and prices
- value — check what the shopkeeper will pay for your gear
Shops carry a set of fixed items that restock on server reset, plus 5-10 random items drawn from a configurable pool so the inventory changes over time. A shared consignment store (room/store.c) holds sold items accessible from both locations.
Items in shop inventory are hidden from the room's normal item list and protected from NPC pickup, so monsters won't wander in and grab the merchandise.
Quest Progression
With ten quests now available, the full progression path looks like this:
- Blue Crystal Staff — Dragonlance introductory quest (Solace, levels 1-5)
- Orc Fortress — dungeon crawl (12 rooms)
- Forest Remedy — multi-step fetch quest (500 XP)
- Disks of Mishakal — retrieval in Xak Tsaroth (levels 5-10)
